If one is truly fortunate, a rare wise being will come into their lives. When you meet such a person you immediately feel that you are in the presence of someone who really knows something about life and how to live it. Such a being’s individual nuances, background and spiritual point of connection may vary; but always the characteristics of their souls are the same. They are as humble as the roots of trees, are filled with boundless compassion, live to serve their communities and embrace life’s most challenging moments as golden opportunities to grow in their faith. Such wise beings also live simply without any attachment to material things, show gratitude each and every day and have rascally sense of humors! But above all, people of wisdom live fully and authentically in the consciousness of that underlying reality called God or Tao. It is clear through spending even a minute in their presence, that such beings have discovered an eternal well of love within them. To share time in their presence is to drink the sweet nectar from the Divine itself and to bask in the light of its grace. If you have met just such a being absorb all of their teachings and model your life after them!
When the fools of reason dictate
The terms of debate
The inner voice of spirit cries
Knowing that the truth is not found
Outside in the world of illusions….
Tell me, who are these “experts”
That we give authority too and emulate?
For to me, it seems,
Like the blind leading the blind
Down a dark alley of lies
Where the greatest victim
Is our own happiness….
Unplug from this matrix
Then strap on your boots
And commune with Mother Nature
She is our great liberator.
The sincere seeker of truth has no interest in taking short cuts. For the illusionary promises of comfort, pleasure and security hold little value for such a person. Rather, souls on the path of spirit dive deeply into the river of life leaving no stone unturned and embracing the inevitable ebbs and flows of absolute being. This, they learn through direct experience, is how true wisdom is found. Abandon fear, live with courage and wait for the grace of God to reveal your purpose.
A genuine spiritual teacher
Is a humble person
Who does not try to “awaken” others….
Rather, such a being is simply one
A loving space
To naturally allow
For the open sharing
And transmission of wisdom
Between kindred souls.
“Inspiration for the Soul”
By: Forrest Rivers
(Abbie taking in the view atop a 12,000 FT peak)
In her eleven plus years on this Earth, my beautiful and inspiring dog Abbie has been speared by a buck(very nearly ending her life), survived two vicious attacks from other dogs(one of which left her with over 50 stitches), consumed an iron packet at the bottom of a dog treat bag that also almost killed her, badly cut her side open on a briar patch(also requiring stitches), cut her paws open twice on glass at the park and even ate a batch of pot edible cookies(Yup another trip to the Pet ER!). Yet, despite enduring so many dramatic and life-threatening events in her journey, after every incident she has bounced back even stronger and more resilient then before. Like the glorious mountains that she hikes nearly each day alongside me, Abbie’s life is a testament to the power of will, courage and faith in the face of adversity. My gratitude could never be expressed in words for the infinite blessings and profound teachings that she has shared with me. Truly, Abbie is the essence of living spirit.
“Tales of Rebirth”
Tales of rebirth
A divine reception
As winter rides
Into the sunset
Gardens to till
But this time
The secret of life
Hidden in plain sight
Just like the Earth
On her cosmic wheel
Of birth and death.
“The Loving Shore”
Believe in yourself
And never doubt the tides
That bring you back to shore again
You are simply divine
And a strand of pure awareness
Blowing in the wind
To enchant all who are blessed
To cross your path
So, always remember your self worth
And reach for the stars
For your dreams will come true!
“Our Original Nature”
A seeker of truth traveled a very long way to a hermit meditating in a cave and asked:
“Excuse me venerated sir, but please answer me one question.”
A twinkle of wisdom sparkled in the hermit’s eyes as he smiled at the stranger seated before him on the ground and said:
“You have journeyed all this way to ask what the original nature of mankind is? Is that correct?”
In awe of the hermit’s ability to read his mind, the seeker of truth nodded his head yes.
The hermit then spoke again:
“Tell me, young seeker, when you see your own reflection in a mountain creek is it distorted in anyway?’
The seeker of truth replied:
“I believe it is not, venerated sir. It is clear and resplendent. So much so, that it sometimes appears that I am staring into the mirror of eternity.”
The same twinkle of wisdom sparkled in the hermit’s eyes again as he simply said:
“Clear and resplendent. That is the original nature of man. Everything else that mankind has added is but an illusion of his natural state.”
“Call of the Wild”
The Call of the wild
Our singular purpose in life
An expression of absolute freedom
The truth of being revealed
Through the wind’s humbling touch….
My soul craves
The Earth’s transcendent wisdom
That fortifies my faith
In the dance of the Divine.
“Wisdom of the Ages”
This experience in a body that we call life is a precious opportunity and a sacred endeavor. What a blessing and what a remarkable occurrence for our souls to incarnate in a physical form time and time again. For just like the passing of the seasons, your soul infinitely spins on the cosmic wheel of oneness. Yet, this wonder of being in form can not be fully explored until we come to terms with the haunting specter of death. For as sure as the morning sunrise, we will all die and the time and manner will not be of our choosing. So, armed with this wisdom of the ages there is only one true and revered way to live: as if each day could be your last.
