“Blessings of a Wise Being”

If one is truly fortunate, a rare wise being will come into their lives. When you meet such a person you immediately feel that you are in the presence of someone who really knows something about life and how to live it. Such a being’s individual nuances, background and spiritual point of connection may vary; but always the characteristics of their souls are the same. They are as humble as the roots of trees, are filled with boundless compassion, live to serve their communities and embrace life’s most challenging moments as golden opportunities to grow in their faith. Such wise beings also live simply without any attachment to material things, show gratitude each and every day and have rascally sense of humors! But above all, people of wisdom live fully and authentically in the consciousness of that underlying reality called God or Tao. It is clear through spending even a minute in their presence, that such beings have discovered an eternal well of love within them. To share time in their presence is to drink the sweet nectar from the Divine itself and to bask in the light of its grace. If you have met just such a being absorb all of their teachings and model your life after them!

“You are Loving Awareness”

The stars and galaxy as seen from Rocky Mountain National Park.

You are the stars and the moon

And you are the sun rising and setting

You are the eagles soaring

And you are the seasons passing

Open and present

To whatever greets you

Nothing can ever prevent you

From being everything

And nothing

Loving awareness is who you are.

“The Balance of Life”

gold and silver round frame magnifying glass

Life is an exquisite balance

Of holding and letting go

Of taking and giving

There is nothing ever to grasp onto

When everything but the soul

Is impermanent

Coming and going

Just like the passing of the seasons….

So prepare to meet both birth and death

As well as success and failure

With the same calm detachment

And loving acceptance

Of all that is.

“The Perfect Role Model”

time-lapse photography of lake during daytime

A mountain creek

Is the perfect role model

For how to live one’s life…..

It is freely flowing

Eternally peaceful

Filled with purpose

Attached not to any destination

And fearlessly present.

“The Perfect Morning”

time lapse photography of multi-step waterfalls

Wake up

Meditate and pray

Read sacred scriptures

Tend to the garden

Hike through the forest

Swim in a mountain creek

Write some poetry

Eat breakfast mindfully

Give thanks to the One

To be alive another morning.

“Nature: Our Great Liberator”

When the fools of reason dictate

The terms of debate

The inner voice of spirit cries

Knowing that the truth is not found

Outside in the world of illusions….

Tell me, who are these “experts”

That we give authority too and emulate?

For to me, it seems,

Like the blind leading the blind

Down a dark alley of lies

Where the greatest victim

Is our own happiness….

Unplug from this matrix

And unwind

Then strap on your boots

And commune with Mother Nature

For truly,

She is our great liberator.

“What was Your Original Face?”

white clouds during daytime

One variation of a Zen koan asks: “What was your original face before you were born?” Today, I have the audacity to try(key word) and answer this question!

What face?

Emptiness.

No form.

A dog chasing its tail?

Sublime perfection.

Too many words?

The blind leading the blind!

The bardos between birth.

Your Buddha Nature.

Something not quite human but the essence of it.

Beyond space and time.

The past, present and future merging.

Fingers pointing at the moon.

Pure awareness.

Oneness.

Too clever?

Meditate more.

Think less!

“The Sincere Seeker”

body of water between trees under cloudy sky

The sincere seeker of truth has no interest in taking short cuts. For the illusionary promises of comfort, pleasure and security hold little value for such a person. Rather, souls on the path of spirit dive deeply into the river of life leaving no stone unturned and embracing the inevitable ebbs and flows of absolute being. This, they learn through direct experience, is how true wisdom is found. Abandon fear, live with courage and wait for the grace of God to reveal your purpose.

“The Genuine Teacher”

shallow focus photo of flower

A genuine spiritual teacher

Is a humble person

Who does not try to “awaken” others….

Rather, such a being is simply one

who creates

A loving space

To naturally allow

For the open sharing

And transmission of wisdom

Between kindred souls.

“Lifting All Illusions”

silhouette of person standing on rock surrounded by body of water

In the Darkness

I see

That what surrounds me

Is so wild and free….

So, what does it mean

To be the one

Dancing in the breeze

with the people I believe

Who are filled

With the love of pure intentions?

Listen and receive

The message

From the spirit of God

Within you.
